Masterclass: Harun Farocki
Masterclass on Friday 25th October at 20.00 at Goethe Institut Athen. Open to the public.
Harun Farocki and Antje Ehmann present their project «Labor in a single-shot / Eine Einstellung zur Arbeit» to the public.
They have been working on this project, which spreads world-wide, since 2011. Using labor (ie work) as their object of research the two filmmakers have been travelling around the world and filming one- or two-minute-long videos focusing on the subject.
Paid, unpaid, manual or intellectual, traditional or completely new, labor becomes a narrative object, at times either suspenseful or surprising. For instance, in Africa a family make a living by cultivating a small piece of land. At the same time, in many EU countries farmers make a living by leaving their land uncultivated –that’s what they get paid for. And this is controlled by satellite.
The project is a co-production of Farocki Filmproduktion with Goethe-Institut, while Goethe-Institut Boston has the general co-ordination.
At the end of 2014, the project will conclude with two large exhibitions in Berlin and Boston.
The masterclass will be in German with simultaneous translation.
Admission is free.
